A Father's Day Poem for My Father

65

By Melody Lagrimas

My father is quite a simple man. He is easy to please and delights in every little favor bestowed upon him. He is a very artistic man; and can play a few musical instruments without much effort nor formal training. Being able to play the guitar, the organ or the flute is among his greatest passions. He is also a good artist, and had used his talent in providing for our basic needs.

I have already published a poem for my mother before. Now it's time to honor my father with a poem especially dedicated to him. As Father's Day nears, I would like him to read this; and I pray that this poem will also inspire others to honor their fathers.

My Father’s Love

My father’s love is selfless;

over the years he toiled and labored

to provide for our basic needs.

With his talent and his brush,

he painted and sketched his way

through life’s ups and downs

to raise his seven children.

My father’s love

is like a sparkling waterfall

that cascades in heightening crescendo;

as through the years he pours it on us

so freely and lavishly -

with no restriction, no condition

and no reservation.

My father’s love –

like a strong anchor –

has ever held us all secure;

confident in the power of love

united in spirit and in thought

regardless of where we are now

and of what we have become.

My father’s love

is like a golden sunrise –

that breaks through gloomy nights

of hardships and poverty

and shines through misty skies

of despair and hopelessness

urging us to believe, and inspiring us to hope.

My father, turning 76 this year,

has indeed gone through a lot.

His face, lined with the wisdom of age,

glows with pride and joy

whenever we come to visit them.

And those artist’s hands - now shaky and weak -

are still adept at playing the guitar,

the flute, and the keyboard.

My father may not be rich,

but he has given us the two greatest gifts

a father could ever give to his children –

selfless love and genuine affection -

boundless, unconditional, priceless.

And for those gifts, I give

my heartfelt and eternal gratitude

to my dear father

for without him by my side

and his godly wisdom to guide,

I may not become what I am now;

and I may not have accomplished

everything that I did.

Thanks a lot, paraglider, fpr dropping by and for commenting. My parents have no computer at home, but will let them view it at an internet cafe.

How lovely Melody! Your father should be very pleased with this poem that honors him. Would it be possible to see some of your father's art?

Very nice family photo. It looks like they also like gardening.

Thanks, Peggy. Most of my father's works were banners and billboards. He used to accept sign painting jobs, billboards, and silkscreen painting. He had a few landscape paintings but I really have no idea where they are now. My youngest brother is a professional artist though, and will showcase a few of his works here.

My mom indeed loves gardening. The picture above was taken two years ago, and now her garden has lots of flowers, which I will be posting here soon too.

Thanks again. God bless.

Your father will no doubt cherish his tribute written tenderly by his daughter. Hope he gets to read it someday even if it means printing it out and sending it along with a Father's Day card. Nice job.

This is very nice. I also have written a page to honor my father. It is something I believe we all should do.

It's nice that you include photos with your poetry. It helps to create a visual. I'm now starting to include some of my poetry in hubs as well.
